Sterling Model 302 Pocket Pistol manufactured by Sterling Arms, based in first Buffalo and then Lockport, New York from the 1970s until the mid-1980s. No production records are known to exist making the exact date of manufacture for this pistol impossible to determine, however the Lockport marking on the frame would lead us to believe this is an 80’s pistol.

A small, compact pistol that fits comfortably in hand, these arms developed a reputation for quality. Steel construction finished in blue lends durability to this arm. Other features include a blowback action, 6-round magazine, heel magazine catch, black plastic grips with SA logo, a little over 2-inch barrel, trench sights, and manual safety above the trigger. Grip screws and trigger are either stainless or in the white.

Markings include ‘STERLING .22 L.R. AUTO’ on the slide, left side. The right side of the frame bears the serial number while the left side is marked ‘STERLING ARMS/LOCKPORT, N.Y.’ The magazine is unmarked.

Minor handling marks in the finish from use are found here and there. The slide metal above the chamber is rough. Some minor wear is seen on the frame superposed on the Lockport marking. The plastic magazine base is chipped on the back right corner, function not affected. The backstrap has a string of numbers preceded by the letter ‘K’ electro penciled along its length.  The origin of this mark is unknown, but we presume that it is an inventory number in case of theft (many law enforcement branches recommended this action ca. 1960s and 70s as a way to counter gun thefts). The bore is clean and bright with very good rifling. The action is smooth and strong, and functions as designed. Overall, this is a nice little 22 pistol.
