The Model 37, manufactured by the Ithaca Gun Co., Ithaca, NY, has a long production history with many variants and has a reputation as a durable shotgun in the field. In fact, it was with this model that I learned the joys of small game hunting and shooting clays with my father.

This Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight, manufactured in 1971, is chambered in 20 gauge, has a modified choke, 28-inch barrel, Ithaca pistol grip endcap, Ithaca rubber recoil pad, and push button safety behind the trigger. Other features include an overall blue metal finish, factory orange front sight, waterfowl scene engraved on the left side of the receiver and a dog/bird scene engraved on the right side. Both the buttstock and slide handle are checkered with a fleur-de-lis pattern. The magazine is a four-shot, tubular magazine. The barrel, left side, is marked ‘Model 37 – Featherweight – 20 GA. – 2 ¾ CHAMBER – PROOF TESTED/ITHACA GUN CO, INC, ITHACA, N.Y. – MADE IN U.S.A. – ROTO (anvil stamp) FORGED/ MOD.’ On the right side of the barrel, just forward of the receiver is ‘P’ within an anvil shape over the number ‘2’. In addition to the engraving on the left side of the receiver is the serial number on the lower rear corner and a ‘P’ within an anvil shape near the barrel. The pistol grip endcap is marked ‘ITHACA’ in white letters that have yellowed with age and the recoil pad also bears the ‘ITHACA’ name within a diamond shape.

Overall, the condition of this Ithaca Model 37 Featherlight is good. The blue finish is strong with minor handling marks from field use. The slide handle bears some minor handling marks and retains a nice wood finish. The buttstock has some finish damage all round near the recoil pad, the wood itself is strong and solid. The recoil pad is soft and flexible. Bore condition is clean and bright with some marks from being shot. The pump action works smoothly, and cycles rounds as designed. This rifle is ideal for any small game hunter!
