Ruger New Model Blackhawk single-action revolver chambered in .357 MAG. Manufactured in 1974, early in New Model Blackhawk production, this revolver features 6-shot cylinder; adjustable rear sight; ramp-style front blade sight; transfer bar safety; rosewood grips with silver Phoenix medallions; anodized trigger guard, ejection rod housing, and grip straps; hammer finished in the white; blued cold hammer forged 6 ½ inch barrel; and blued frame.
Markings include ‘RUGER .357 MAGNUM CAL./NEW MODEL BLACKHAWK’ on the left side of the frame with the serial number on the right side. The barrel is marked ‘STURM, RUGER & CO. INC./SOUTHPORT, CONN. U.S.A.’ forward of the Ruger Phoenix logo. ‘NXR-RED’ is marked on the grip frame, left side, under the grips. The rear face of the cylinder is marked ‘S’ while the front face is electro-penciled with a ‘6’, what we assume is a ‘4’ but it looks like a backwards lowercase h, a ‘1’ and then what appears to be the number one crossed out. It is not uncommon for the electro-penciled SN digits to be illegible.
Small handling marks scattered throughout, surface oxidation on the hammer, and drag lines on the cylinder, none of which detract from the overall eye appeal of this revolver. The bore is clean and bright with sharp rifling. The action is crisp and functions flawlessly. Known for their quality and accuracy, Ruger New Model Blackhawks are popular among both collectors and shooters.
