The Colt Police Positive 38 revolver was introduced in 1907 and produced until 1947. The double-action, six-shot revolver proved a popular arm for law enforcement. The Police Positive offered here was manufactured in 1926 and part of the first issue (1907-1927) group with the last patent date of 1905 on top of the barrel. The revolver features a blued finish, smooth topstrap, four-inch barrel, half-moon blade front sight and notched topstrap rear sight, checkered walnut grips with silver rampant colt medallions, and is chambered in .38 New Police.

Markings on this Colt Police Positive 38 revolver include ‘COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A./PAT’D AUG 5, 1884 JUNE 5, 1900 JULY 4, 1905’ on top of the barrel and ‘COLT POLICE POSITVE – .38’ on the left side of the barrel. The left side of the frame is marked with the rampant colt logo and the serial number is found on the frame above the letter ‘T’ as well as on the crane. ‘0’, ‘5’, ‘4’, and ‘W’ are marked under the left grip on the grip frame and ‘P.P.D. No 6’, denoting the Plainfield Police Department; revolver number 6, is stamped on the butt. This Colt Police Positive is the 6th revolver of 12 shipped to Chief P.J. Kiely on July 7, 1926 as noted in the factory letter (included) and the revolver number on the butt.

Carried by a Plainfield Officer, the Colt Police Positive 38 revolver shows holster wear, mostly on the right side of the cylinder, frame hump, and grip, well as around the barrel, backstrap, and topstrap. High point wear is found on the cylinder and frame with areas of minor frosting scattered throughout. The action is tight and crisp, and the bore clean and bright with very good rifling. The grips are not cracked and show service wear on the checkering. There are no scratches or damage otherwise and the remaining blue is vibrant. We would characterize this revolver as having a long service life but shot very little.

A great example of a Colt Police Positive 38 revolver with police history for a shooter or law enforcement/colt collector. Comes with original Colt factory letter as shown.
