For Sale: Colt Police Positive 38 Revolver, .38 Special, Pre-War w/Box

The Colt Police Positive 38 revolver was introduced in 1907 and produced until 1947. The double-action, six-shot revolver proved a popular arm for law enforcement. The Police Positive offered here was manufactured in 1935 and part of the second issue group (1928-1947) with the last patent date of 1926 on top of the barrel. The revolver features a blued finish, serrated topstrap, four-inch barrel, half-moon blade front sight and notched topstrap rear sight, two-piece checkered walnut grips with silver rampant colt medallions at the top, and is chambered in .38 Special.

Markings on this Colt Police Positive 38 revolver include ‘COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A./PAT’D AUG 5, 1884. JULY 4, 1905. OCT. 5, 1926.’ on top of the barrel and ‘POLICE-/POSITIVE’ ‘.38 SPECIAL’ on the left side of the barrel. The left side of the frame is marked with the rampant colt logo and under the crane, on the frame, is the serial number below an inverted ‘1’ and above the letter ‘H’. The SN is stamped on the crane as well. The Verified Proof (VP within a triangle) mark is found on the left side of the frame just above the front trigger guard and is struck at an angle with the lower point on the inverted triangle very light. The number ‘0’ is found on the same side, just above the rear of the trigger guard. A ‘V’ is stamped under the barrel, just to the front of the frame. The front face of the cylinder is marked with an ‘E’ and an over stamped ‘Z’ between chambers.

This Colt Police Positive 38 revolver is in good condition with high point wear of the blued finish on the muzzle and cylinder. A faint drag line that does not wear through the blue exists on the cylinder. Minor handing marks are scattered throughout. The grips show some wear, along with scattered dings. The grips are not cracked. All markings are sharp and defined. The action is tight and crisp, and the bore clean and bright with excellent rifling.

The original box is in excellent structural condition with storage and handling wear along the edges and corners. No serial number is marked on the box. Colt’s advertising and trademark information is marked inside the box top and bottom, while the end bears a sticker on the outside with the revolver information ‘4’ ‘COLT’S POLICE-/POSITIVE REVOLVER’ .38’ over ‘Reg U.S. Pat. Off.’ over ‘Wood Blue Colt Police Cartridge’.

A nice Colt Police Positive 38 revolver chambered in .38 Special that would fit nicely in to a Colt police revolver collection. Comes with original Colt box.
