For Sale: Colt New Service Model Revolver, 45 COLT

The Colt New Service Model revolver was introduced in 1898 and produced through World War I until ceasing early in World War II in 1942. The double-action, six-shot revolver utilized the largest frame of Colt’s double-action, swingout cylinder revolvers. The New Service Model offered here, manufactured in 1907 (first type), is a commercial model with the last patent date of 1900 on top of the barrel. The revolver features a blued finish, smooth topstrap and trigger, early checkered flat cylinder release catch, 7 ½-inch barrel, fixed blade front sight and notched topstrap rear sight, early hard rubber grips with ‘COLT’ in an oval at the top, and is chambered in .45 COLT.

Markings on this Colt New Service Model revolver include ‘COLT’S PATENT FIRE ARMS MANUFACTURING CO./HARTFORD. CT. US.A. PAT AUG. 5. 1884 JUNE 5 1900’ on top of the barrel and ‘NEW SERVICE’ forward of ’45 COLT’ on the left side of the barrel. The left side of the frame is marked with the rampant colt logo wrapped in ‘COLT’S NEW SERVICE MODEL’ and under the crane, on the frame, is the serial number below the letter ‘H’. The SN is stamped on the crane as well. The Verified Proof (VP within a triangle) mark is found on the left side of the frame just above the front trigger guard and the number ‘3’ is found on the same side, just above the rear of the trigger guard. The front face of the cylinder is marked in between chambers, near the ejector rod, with the letter ‘W’. Underneath the barrel, at its junction with the frame is the number ‘45’.

This New Service Model is in excellent condition with only a few scattered light handling marks and few freckles of oxidation. Minor finish wear exists near the muzzle. The cylinder has a light drag line. All markings are sharp and defined. The action is tight and crisp, and the bore is like new – clean and bright with excellent rifling. The hard rubber grips are unworn and not cracked.
