For Sale: Colt Army Special Model Revolver, Nickel, 38 SPCL

The Colt Army Special Model revolver was introduced in 1908 and produced until 1927. The double-action, six-shot revolver superseded the New Army model. The Army Special offered here was manufactured in 1916 with the last patent date of 1905 on top of the barrel. The revolver features a nickel finish, smooth topstrap and trigger, checkered rounded cylinder release catch, six-inch barrel, half-moon blade front sight and notched topstrap rear sight, fleur-de-lis, checkered hard rubber grips with the stylized ‘C’ around the grip screws and ‘COLT’ in an oval at the top, and is chambered in .38 Special.

Markings on this Colt Army Special Model revolver include ‘COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN U.S.A/PAT’D AUG. 5. 1884, JUNE 5. 1900, APR 9. 01, JULY 4. 05’ on top of the barrel and ‘COLT’ ‘ARMY/SPECIAL’ ‘38’ on the left side of the barrel. The left side of the frame is marked with the rampant colt logo and under the crane, on the frame, is the serial number above the letter ‘O’. The SN is stamped on the crane as well. The Verified Proof (VP within a triangle) mark is found on the left side of the frame just above the front of the triggerguard and the number ‘3’ is found on the same side, just above the rear of the triggerguard. The front face of the cylinder is marked in between chambers, near the ejector rod, with a box containing a diagonal line runing from the top right to bottom left corner.

This Colt Army Special is in excellent condition with only a few scattered light handling marks. The cylinder has a light drag line. All markings are sharp and defined. The action is tight and crisp, and the bore is like new – clean and bright with excellent rifling. The hard rubber grips are unworn and not cracked.
