The Colt Model 1862 Police revolver is a well-known and popular revolver in the collecting community. Manufactured from 1861 through 1873, features include half-fluted, 5-shot rebated cylinder; creeping loading lever; and is chambered in .36 caliber.

Markings on this Colt Model 1862 Police revolver, manufactured in 1863, include ‘ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA’ on top of the barrel, ‘COLTS/PATENT’ on the frame, right side, ‘.36 CAL’ on brass trigger guard, right side back, ‘3’ on trigger guard, right side behind trigger, and ‘PAT SEPT. 10TH 1850’ in one of the cylinder flutes. The matching serial number is stamped on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, back strap, wedge, and walnut grip.

The condition is as expected for a Civil War era revolver. Faint silver plating remains on protected areas of the trigger guard and grip straps. The barrel and cylinder both have a worn blue finish with brown patina. Bluing remains strong in some protected areas such as cylinder flutes. A very strong, beautiful color case remains on the receiver and sides of the hammer. The cylinder safety pins are nicely proud, and cylinder is tight. The action, strong and crisp, functions as intended. Good bore, clean and semi bright with defined rifling, some darker areas present, and minor patches of pitting. Very small chip and repair to left grip, lower front corner.
