The Luger P.08 pistol was a mainstay of the German military for decades and was a popular souvenir item for Allied soldiers in WWII. The P.08 offered here was manufactured in 1939 by Mauser-Werke (war code 42 at the time of production). All serial numbers match on the receiver, barrel, and frame while the small parts two numeral stamps (including firing pin) match the last two letters of the SN. Nonmatching magazine is the correct Type 2 Army for 1939 and is marked 8900 with SE/63.
Markings include Frame: front (below barrel) SN ‘7673’ over script ‘t’ and “GESICHERT’ behind safety. Receiver: left side ‘7673’, top side ‘1939’, right side ‘SE/63 SE/63’ followed by the late version of the army test proof mark, bottom side (below index mark) lower case ‘a’ and ‘NS’ across index mark. Barrel: bottom ‘7673’ over ‘8,82’ bore gauge, right side has the late test proof mark. Extractor: ‘GELADEN’. Front Toggle Link top side ‘42” and last two SN digits, bottom has factory proof stamp. Rear Toggle Link top side has last two SN digits, and the bottom side marked ‘2’ with factory proof stamp.
The bore on this Luger P.08 pistol is clean, bright, and very nice rifling. Checkered walnut grips in good condition; the left grip is marked with a ‘F’ inside. Missing hold open. The metal finish is worn, and pitting is present in some small areas. Overall, this is a nice representative Luger P.08 pistol that has a history of active duty and carries a condition as one might expect for a wartime service arm that did not sit in a desk drawer during the war.
See pictures for overall condition. FFL or C&R required for purchase.
